2024 Inaugural Pony Express Ride, March 16: A Historic Journey Through San Tan Valley

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the communities of Florence, San Tan Valley, and Queen Creek will witness a unique and historic event – the 2024 Inaugural Pony Express Ride. This remarkable event, starting at noon, will see riders embarking from Ruggles & Main in front of McFarland State Historic Park and the Florence Post Office, journeying through the heart of San Tan Valley, and culminating at Horseshoe Park in Queen Creek.

In a display of community spirit and historical homage, the riders will carry special postcards written by local school children, addressed to service men and women stationed overseas. These postcards represent not only the thoughts and appreciation of our young students but also a symbolic connection between our community and those serving abroad.

As the riders traverse the scenic route along Hunt Highway, Felix Road, Arizona Farms Road, Gantzel Road, Skyline Road, Empire Road, and Riggs Road via the Sonoqui Wash trail, they will be part of a living tribute to the historic Pony Express. Spectators are welcome to watch the ride, although there are no designated spectator areas, and safety is of utmost importance. The community is advised to observe at their own risk and ensure they do not hinder the riders' progress.

The event will not only be a testament to our local heritage but also an integral part of the opening ceremonies for the rodeo at Horseshoe Park. This adds an extra layer of excitement and significance to the ride, as participants will be greeted with the fanfare and celebration befitting this momentous occasion.

The 2024 Inaugural Pony Express Ride is more than just a reenactment; it is a celebration of community, history, and the spirit of connection that defines our area. It promises to be an unforgettable experience for riders and spectators alike, creating lasting memories and a deepened sense of community pride.

This event is a unique opportunity for San Tan Valley, Florence, and Queen Creek residents to come together and be part of a living history, all while supporting a meaningful cause that reaches across the globe.
