2013 Pinal County Domestic Violence Coalition’s 18th Annual Conference

This year’s conference theme, “Domestic Violence Co-Occurrences: Substance Abuse, Sexual Abuse and Mental Health,” will explore how experiencing and addressing issues of domestic violence is often further complicated by co-occurring issues. Topics to be discussed include personal and professional experiences dealing with substance abuse and domestic violence and domestic violence and sexual abuse. Presentations will focus on those victims in and survivors from the sex trade and will provide expert testimony on trauma, violence and mental health. The topics will also be addressed from a law enforcement perspective of investigating domestic violence cases and caring for victims experiencing co-occurring issues.

PCDVC proudly announces the following speakers: Mary Guiberson, co-founder of Thrivers Action Group Dr. Dominique Roe-Sepowitz, professor at ASU and founder of Project ROSE (Reach Out to the Sexually Exploited) Dr. Kathryn Seifert, forensic psychologist and CEO of Eastern Shore Psychological Services Chief Joe Brugman, Chief of the Coolidge Police Department and 29 year law enforcement veteran

Financial sponsors of the conference include the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the Pinal County Attorney’s Office, Wal-Mart Distribution, Wal-Mart San Tan, Wal-Mart Coolidge, AZ Public Safety Foundation, and AZ Early Childhood Development & Health Board – First Things First. Additional sponsors are Dolce Vita Resort, CAAFA, Against Abuse, Inc., and the Apache Junction Police Department.

Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles stated, “Each year, Pinal County hosts this conference, where agencies including PCAO and the PCDV Coalition work side-by-side to educate agencies and the public on how to curb domestic violence in our communities. This year, the Conference welcomes attendees from around the State, including organizations from Prescott, Scottsdale, and Phoenix, which allows for fresh perspectives for all of our agencies.”
